I really don’t understand why more people are not talking about this. Maybe it has to do with the fact that despite the amount of money ABC has paid to televise these races, especially these CHASE races, they still fell the need to switch us from the last 39 laps so that we can all enjoy “America’s Funniest Home Videos”. I mean how ridicules was that……
Anyway, as the cars crossed the finish line on Sunday Night at Phoenix, Matt Kenseth did something you rarely see and that is lose his cool and just take his car and ram it into the side of AJ Allmendinger’s #10 car.
We don’t see this much anymore. We saw it earlier this year when Michael Waltrip did it and he was parked for the remainder of a race. I guess we did just see it last week when David Gilliland took out Juan Montoya…and again…David Gilliland was parked for the remainder of the race.
Well what Matt Kenseth did to AJ may have been a worse act then either of Waltrip’s or Gilliland’s as Kenseth took out at least 10 cars in the process.
While Kenseth’s saving grace may be that the race was over and nobody lost any finishing spots over the ordeal….I still feel that justice needs to be done and that Matt Kenseth should be parked for the final race of the year at Homestead. It won’t hurt Jack Rousch and it won’t hurt the sponsors….they can go get Mark Martin to fill in for this single race and everybody will be happy. (edit: after this was written Martin was signed by Red Bull to run the Homestead race in the #84 car in hopes of that car making the final 35)
Either way it goes….Matt Kenseth HAS to be penalized for that action at the end of the Phoenix race. In my opinion the appropriate action is for him to be parked for the final race of the year. Anything less will be an injustice.
