Sportsbook.com’s Auto Club 500 Odds

Saturday, February 21st, 2009

Here’s the top 5:

Johnson +400

Edwards +500

K. Busch +600

Gordon +800

Kenseth +1000

Here are some long shots:

Martin, Hamlin, Stewart: +2000

Truex +5000

Montoya +10000

That’s right, you bet 100 clams on Montoya and you win 10,000 clams if he wins the race. Seems like a good bet to me. What do you think?

Today’s Streak for the Cash Match-Ups

Saturday, February 21st, 2009

Today at the awesome ESPN game Streak for the Cash the NASCAR match-ups are:

Truck Race: Kyle Busch vs Ron Hornaday Jr.

Nationwide:  Carl Edwards vs Greg Biffle

I think I am going to follow the herd on these and go Busch and Edwards.

My current streak is 2 losses in a row. Can you beat that?

Worst Vacation Ever?

Imagine you are a new crew member for a NASCAR team. You make the trip to Daytona Beach Florida. You’re soaking in the rays, taking in the scenery, and bagging NASCAR groupies…

Then suddenly WHAM-POP-ZOINKS!!!

You just failed a mandatory drug test and you are suspended indefinetely. Just another reminder that drugs-are-bad-m’kay.

Auto Club 500 – What To Watch For…

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

Whether you flirted with 300 points last week or barely broke 150 (like myself) make sure to throw anything from Daytona out of the window. I love Daytona as much as anybody else, but a rain-shortened restrictor plate race without any testing is hardly an indicator about how the rest of the season will go.

That will change this weekend when the Sprint Cup Series heads to Fontana. The schedule is dominated by large, fast racetracks and Auto Club Speedway will give us a much clearer picture of where each team is after an off-season without testing. So while you’re watching the race Sunday, here are a few things to watch out for:

1. Are Jimmie Johnson, Carl Edwards and Kyle Busch still in a league of their own?

- These 3 drivers dominated the non-restrictor plate superspeedways last season and will the no testing policy hurt or help them?

2. Is Jeff Gordon on the comeback trail?

- These next two races (Auto Club and Las Vegas) will be huge for Gordon’s quest to return to Victory Lane and contend for the championship. Gordon doesn’t have win these races, but solid Top 10 finishes with some laps led will convince me that he’s back. On the other hand, if that team struggles and doesn’t show much speed, Gordon may be in for another disappointing season.

3. Is David Ragan ready to contend?

- Ragan made huge strides last season and almost made the Chase. Auto Club Speedway has always been kind to Roush drivers, so if Ragan is ready to contend for race wins and solidify a spot in the Chase, he needs to come away with a solid run this weekend.
