Practice Breakdown, Homestead

Saturday, November 20th, 2010

The Championship edition.

A list ranks- 99, 11, 14, 18, 48,  24, 16, 5, 2, 42

Carl is very happy on these slick tracks and the car is fast. 99 is top 5

Denny starts deep in the field but as we’ve seen before he knows how to work his way through traffic and win.Denny’s teammate Kyle Busch was also fast as he lead the first practice on saturday. I have Kyle getting a top 10 but could surprise and challenge for the win.

I though Tony Stewart was as fast as anyone in the first practice. He like Carl likes them slick. I see Tony as a top 10 car.

Jimmie Johnson is pretty happy with his car but i see him as a top 10 car and not much more. He does have track position on his side but this is a place you can pass if your fast.  His teammate Jeff Gordon also looks fast and is due for a top 1o run.

Greg Biffle is ranked ahead of Mark Martin soley on his record here as he is in a backup car.

B list ranks- 29, 17, 31, 00, 83, 56, 20, 39, 33, 1, 6

Kevin Harvick is bad to the bone fast. Can’t put up that fast lap but he is ridiculously fast over a long run. His teammate Jeff Burton is also really fast and if he can finish like he races he should be good for a solid top 10.

David Reutimann is as fast as anyone not named Kevin Harvick on the long run. I like Reuty for a top 10 atleast, i think he’s top 5 car going in. His teammate Martin Truex is pretty good as well but like Burton has trouble finishing. This is Martin’s best track and a top 10 is possible but not likely.

Matt Kenseth staying true to form really didn’t show what he had but i’m betting that Matt and the 17 team are fast and top 10 atleast if not top 5.

Kasey Kahne is surprisingly fast. So if you need a sleeper pick he or Reutimann should do the trick.

C list ranks- 43, 98, 21, 9, 78, 82, 77

Pretty tight on ranking the top 2 but i’ll take AJ starting up front and he like them slick. All of his teammates are pretty fast too.

Bill Elliot is pretty sporty and if his pit crew can come through i like him for a top 20.

Regan Smith hit the wall in practice but the team got it repaired and Regan should be good for a top 20-25.

Don’t touch Speed or Hornish, especially Sammy as he’s already been in the wall in practice. Should be a comical finale for Sam in multiple regards.

Winner: Kevin Harvick

Champ: Denny Hamlin but Happy is going to make it interesting.

B list sleepers: 00 , 56, 83

Yahoo team: 11, 00, 17, 78 over 48, 39, 20, 82.

Tune in for tomorrow’s chat for my raceday Top 10.

Good luck FNPers!!! See ya in February!

Practice Breakdown, Phoenix II

Saturday, November 13th, 2010

This is one of the harder places to pass so track position will play a big role. I’ll factor that into my rankings.

A list ranks- 99, 11, 48, 16, 24, 14, 18, 5, 2, 42

I think the class of the field is 99 and 11. I didn’t watch Carl’s times as close as Denny’s though.

48 car really didn’t show me much in practice. Maybe he just had his poker face on.

Gordon and Mark Martin are very fast but start way back.

B list ranks- 20, 17, 29, 00, 88, 33, 39, 31, 56, 83

I really wish Dale Jr. started up front because i think he’s as fast as anyone in this grouping.

Logano has been fast all weekend and has Hamlin to lean on.

Roush and Matt Kenseth really seem to have this place figured out this weekend. I may save my last Kenseth start for Homestead but Matt should be up front when the checker flag waves.

Kevin Harvick likes his car and so do i. But as usual the 29 starts deep in the field. The rest of the RCR bunch are just mediocre.

I don’t think i would gamble with Newman this week as he has Ron Hornaday standing by to fill in, in case his wife, Krissie goes into labor.

C list ranks- 43, 98, 9, 78, 77, 7, 82, 09, 13, 37

AJ seems like a motivated man and those who saved him for this week shouldn’t be shy with his last allocation.

Menard hasn’t proven himself on this type of track yet.

Aric Almirola starts up front and hopefully can just finish top 20-25.

I don’t expect to see Regan Smith in the top 15 this week.

Who knows what Sam Hornish has as he tested most of the day. For those wanting a deep sleeper i like Robby Gordon for a top 25.

B list sleepers are Logano and Dale Jr.

Yahoo 11, 20, 88, 9 over 48, 17, 39, 77 but Matt is tugging at me. Why start 88 so deep? I have nothing to lose!

ESPN team 11, 29, 99, 5, 20

Paythefan  leaning 99 and 2 over 48 and 5. Jimmie just doesn’t look that good to me but i may switch him and Kurt. B list i have 56 and 88 over 43 because i need to start 56 two times. C list is Robby Gordon and Almirola. 2nd team i have 48, 2, 56, 20, 7, 9

Chase team 48, 43, 88, 9

Winner i’ll go Carl over Denny but i really like Denny again.

That’s all race fans good luck for those of you racing for championships.

Practice Breakdown, Texas II

Saturday, November 6th, 2010

This is a track that you can pass on so i’m not too worried about Denny and Jimmie starting deep. Although Jimmie did start deep last year and was wrecked by none other than Sam Hornish Jr.

A list ranks- 18, 11, 99, 48, 16, 14, 5, 42, ,24, 2

Joe Gibbs racing is really strong this weekend. They start deep but i really see one of them winning this race. Hendrick seems to be struggling.

Jimmie improved quite a bit at the end of the session though. Jeff and Mark are still looking for speed.

Roush very competitive with all 4 cars looking pretty sporty. Wouldn’t be suprised to see Carl in victory lane either.

I don’t trust Kurt Busch as they are working on next year.

B list ranks- 17, 29, 56, 00, 20, 33, 31, 39, 6, 19, 1, 83, 88

Feels like a Kenseth kind of race to me.

Harvick struggled most of practice but got better in Happy Hour. I think he will have to claw for a top 10 though. Bowyer and Burton tested most of practice so it’s hard to say what they have.

Truex was fast early but slowed down as the track got hotter, otherwise i would have him ahead of Harvick.

Stewart Haas looks pretty good and should be solid on long runs. I may have Newman too low.

I have a feeling Reutimann was on old tires most of practice otherwise his laps times were not that good.

Logano is another guy i like as a sleeper option this week.

C list ranks- 98, 43, 82, 78, 77, 9, 21, 38, 10

I may regret it but i have Speed over Regan for now.

Hornish was loose in practice, suprising huh?

Trevor Bayne could suprise but it won’t matter as Ptf doesn’t have him listed.

Race Winner: Kyle Busch

B list sleepers: 56, 20, 19

Yahoo team 11, 17, 56, 82 over 48, 00, 1, 78 for now.

Espn team 11, 18, 99, 00, 56

Paythefan 99, 2, 56, 20, 9, 7. But i would use Bayne over Robby if they add him. Kurt is on there because i have to.

Chase Team 99, 56, 20, 19. I’m actually considering 6 over 42 though.

Ok i think that covers everything. Be sure to tune into the chat tomorrow where i will list my top 10 overall picks for the race.

Good Luck FNPers!!!
