Martinsville is one of my favorite tracks, if not my very favorite. Martinsville is .526 miles in length with only 11 degrees of banking and it’s often referred to as the paper clip, because it’s shaped like one. Qualifying is very important, as passing is very difficult. This track is hard on the brakes, as you would imagine. Drivers fly down the straight-away, then jam on the brakes before the corner. It’s a rhythm race track, which means you need a driver that is smooth and will hit his spots repeatedly. The drivers with a shot to win will take care of their brakes until the end of the race. Don’t worry about fuel-mileage races here and don’t be afraid to bring out the studs at this track. Aerodynamics don’t mean as much here, it’s all about mechanical grip. If your at the track, try a world famous Martinsville hot dog or 20.
A List Rankings
1. Jimmie Johnson- Martinsville has long been thought of as Jimmie’s best track in my eyes. Coming off a 2nd-place finish at Auto Club Speedway, I expect Johnson to be quite motivated this week. In the last three years at the famed short track, Jimmie has a 3.7 average finish with six top 10s in six races. He’s also led 680 laps in that same span. The No. 48 is an absolute lock to make my team. Last year, Jimmie tested here and was only good for a 7.0 average finish in two races with two top 1os.
2. Denny Hamlin- Denny will be looking to turn his season around and Martinsville just so happens to be his best track. Hamlin was very fast last week at Auto Club Speedway but ended up blowing an engine. This track is not that tough on engines, so the No. 11 will make my team. Denny has a three-year average of 1.8 here, with six top 10s in six races with 795 laps led. Denny won both races here last year, I don’t see a reason to take anyone else this week, do you?

very good synopsis of the drivers to use at M’ville K-man and I agree with you in basically all of your rankings. I had my team set before the Fontana race actually and here’s who I have:
