2012 Yahoo Fantasy NASCAR Initial Impressions

January 13th, 2012

Yahoo has officially opened its 2012 fantasy racing leagues, allowing us to see this season’s A, B and C List groupings. I haven’t done any significant analysis yet, but here are my initial impressions:

- There are only nine drivers in the A List as opposed to the usual 10. With Kyle Busch, Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, Carl Edwards and Tony Stewart here, who cares about the 10th driver?

- The B List is absolutely loaded. It only took 30 seconds of scanning the drivers to know that the winner of your Yahoo league will be the person who earns the most points from the B List.

- The downside of an exceptionally deep B List is a horribly shallow C List. Thirty more seconds of scanning this grouping made me sick to my stomach. Last season, my weekly goal was a Top 20 for my C List driver. This season, Top 25′s will seem like small victories.

2012 Fantasy NASCAR Driver Rankings

January 10th, 2012

As the sports world argues over Tim Tebow, complains about a National Championship field goal kicking contest and watches Floyd Mayweather do everything he can to convince us he’s not dodging Manny Pacquiao (even though he is) FantasyNASCARPreview.com is officially back at work, getting ready for the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season.

Our first order of business, nailing down the FNP Fantasy NASCAR Rankings.

These are not geared towards any specific format, just each of our Top 30 rankings heading into the season.

Ford 400 Practice Breakdown

November 19th, 2011

Well those practice sessions didn’t really go as expected. Let’s just say I have almost a whole new lineup as far as starters go. You can pass at this track, so track position isn’t everything. Homestead is a cookie cutter track, so fuel mileage is always a possibility.

A- 99, 14, 17, 16, 29, 24, 48, 18, 22, 11

Carl Edwards is stupid fast on a short run, but who knows on a long run. I’m thinking he’ll be more than fine, as he absolutely loves this track. Carl is my pick to win on Sunday and starts from the Pole.

Tony Stewart isn’t blistering fast, but I bet when the green flag drops he heads to the front of the pack.  I think Smoke will see plenty of Greg Biffle and Matt Kenseth racing him hard on Sunday. They’re both are top 10 cars easily and look to make Tony’s life difficult .

Kevin Harvick looks OK and I would avoid this team with all the turmoil going on. Gil Martin looks to be out as crew chief of the No. 29 car after this race. Not a scenario I want for my A driver if I’m trying to make up points.

Greg Biffle might actually be the second-fastest A driver this week. He’s only ranked this low due to his inconsitentcy. Biffle has a fast enough car to win on Sunday and is a great Hail Mary pick.
