The second race just ended, and the usual suspects were fast. Although nobody was as dominant as Dale Earnhardt Jr. was in the first race, Jeff Gordon, all 3 Gibbs cars and Michael Waltrip all looked fast.
A couple of notes about this race:
1. Michael Waltrip set himself apart as the best C List driver by a longshot for the Daytona 500.
2. Kyle Busch was very fast, but I won’t even consider putting him on my roster for Sunday. He was bouncing all of the place and I don’t see him making it the entire 500 miles.
3. Jeff Gordon ran up front all race without any teammates. Earnhardt, Johnson, and Mears were all in the first race and Gordon had to battle all 3 Gibbs cars who were working well together.
4. What do you know? Mark Martin very quietly finished 5th. He’s definitely a guy to look at for the 500 because he’s smart and knows how to run these plate races.
