There are a handful of drivers capable of running up front and leading the series in wins in 2010. Jimmie Johnson, Mark Martin, Tony Stewart, Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin all won at least four races last season, and Jeff Gordon and Carl Edwards have proved they have the ability to lead laps and rack up a significant number of checkered flags in a single season.

The easy answer here is Johnson, who seems like a lock to win 7-10 races each season, but all signs point to Kyle Busch as the driver poised to go on a tear in 2010.

Last year was considered a disaster for Busch, yet there were only two drivers (Jimmie Johnson and Mark Martin) who won more races. Kyle did not make the Chase in 2009, mostly due to a lack of consistency after Memorial Day. Sub par finishes put Busch in a hole, forcing him to push harder, and sometimes too hard, in an attempt to get the 18 car back into the Top 12 in points.

Busch knows this and has made personnel changes, as well as schedule changes, to improve his consistency and vault himself back into the Championship picture.

Johnson and Martin will certainly win their fair share of races, but don’t be surprised to see Busch come out like gangbusters and win early and often in 2010.
