Yahoo Fantasy NASCAR Preview – Bristol

These driver selections represent my roster before Yahoo’s qualifying deadline. Active and inactive drivers should be selected after qualifying and all practices take place. I will post any changes, as well as my final active roster in our Fantasy NASCAR Forum. Also, be sure to check out our Yahoo Driver Rankings before selecting your final qualifying roster.

A List

1. Kyle Busch (9 starts remaining)

Busch won the very first COT race, which happened to be at Bristol,
and has been fast there ever since. Kyle swept both Sprint Cup races
in Thunder Valley last year and is a lock for this week’s A List.

2. Denny Hamlin (9)

Although Hamlin has gotten off to a slow start this season, his record
at Bristol is hard to ignore. In 2009, Hamlin’s average finish of 3.5
was the 2nd best among all Sprint Cup Drivers (Kyle Busch was #1).

B List

1. Marcos Ambrose (9)

Bristol is a very unique racetrack and gives us an opportunity to put
drivers on our roster that we don’t usually consider on a week-in and
week-out basis. Ambrose’s average finish of 6.5 at Bristol last season
is tied for the best average among current B List drivers. Getting a
solid Top 15 out of Ambrose here would be huge considering we’d be
saving a start with a B List big gun.

2. Ryan Newman (9)

Newman is tied with Ambrose for the best average finish at Bristol in
2009. The Rocketman also had the third highest average starting
position (5.5) among all Sprint Cup drivers last year and we know how
important starting position can be at a place like Bristol.

3. Dale Earnhardt Jr. (9)

Earnhardt was just plain awful in 2009, but he still managed to run
well at Bristol. Junior’s 11.5 average finish last season ranks third
among current B List drivers, giving us another chance to sit the B
List studs for a driver who knows how to navigate the World’s Fastest
Half Mile.
