The Bud Shootout driver match-ups have been posted and I’ve highlighted one to keep an eye on:
Clint Bowyer +110 over Jimmie Johnson
For those new to NASCAR betting, driver matchups are a type of wager where you’re picking one driver of a predetermined matchup and get paid by the corresponding odds. The driver with the highest finishing position wins the matchup.
For instance, this highlighted matchup has Jimmie Johnson as a -140 favorite over Clint Bowyer.
That means a winning wager on Johnson of $14 will pay out $10. Conversely, a winning bet on Bowyer at +110 will pay out $11 on a $10 bet.
Currently, the sportsbook 5Dimes has 18 Bud Shootout matchups posted. A quick glance shows that this week’s highlighted match-up between Bowyer and Johnson has Clint tied for the biggest underdog of all match-ups at +110.
This is most likely due to the public money that will be backing Johnson since he’s coming off his fifth straight Sprint Cup Championship and will undoubtedly be a big favorite among NASCAR bettors.
As a result, there is big value on Bowyer, especially since he won the most recent plate race (Talladega in October) and finished higher than Johnson in all four 2010 restrictor plate races.
So, in our first driver matchup of the season, we’re taking:
Clint Bowyer +110 over Jimmie Johnson

Kurt Busch took it home, and he wasn’t a good a pick according to the odds
No doubt, Bowyer over Johnson, even money would still be a safe bet. Johnson is not a plate racer. Terrible finishes in almost every race.
